BADDER BRAINS VS. BAADER BRAINS (AND THE BAADER-MEINHOF COMPLEX)

THERE IS A BAND CALLED BAADER BRAINS (sic) FEATURING MIKE KIRSCH (OF TORCHES TO ROME/PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN, THIS IS A HIJACK FAME) AND JOSE PALAFOX (STRUGGLE/SWING KIDS). THEY ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE RADICAL, LEFTIST AND ENTIRELY FICTIONAL "YOUNG TIGER FREE ORGANIZATION." THEY WERE SCHEDULED TO PLAY JUNE 8th, 2008 BUT WHEN THEIR SET TIME ARRIVED, A GROUP CALLING THEMSELVES BADDER BRAINS (REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CAPITALIST, FUN-HATING AND ENTIRELY FICTIONAL DIAGRAM GROUP) STORMED THE STAGE AND DISTRIBUTED THE PAMPHLETS YOU SEE OVER HERE.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

THE REAL BAADER BRAINS FINALLY SHOW UP BEFORE THE FALSE BADDER BRAINS ARE ABLE TO BEGIN PLAYING AND FORCE THEM FROM THE STAGE, SHOUTING ""REVISIONISTS! REVISIONISTS! WE RECLAIM THIS STAGE IN THE NAME OF THE YOUNG TIGER FREE ORGANIZATION!" IT IS TRULY A KILLER VIDEO. YOUTUBE IT. ANYWAYS, THE BAADER BRAINS BEGIN DISTRIBUTING THEIR OWN FLYERS WHICH CAN BE SEEN DOWN HERE. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

BALLOONS ARE DROPPED, DANCING IS INITIATED, GOOD TIMES ARE HAD IN THE NAME OF SLAYING CAPITALISM AND PUNKING THE ROCK. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SET OF EVENTS. but seriously....

Baader Brains is named for Andreas Baader, leader of the leftist radical organization the Red Army Faction, also known as the Baader-Meinhof group. These dudes were kind of terrorists, but also kind of heroes in a skewed way. It's still a pretty controversial subject, so much so that a high-budg Germanetic group of famous people are making a real! live! action! movie about them. check out the HI-DEF trailer it looks fucking intense!!!

LISTEN TO BAADER BRAINS, PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN, SWING KIDS, AND TORCHES TO ROME!

ALL INSANELY INFLUENTIAL RADICAL BANDS!!!

HERE IS PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN, THIS IS A HIJACK'S SECOND RECORD CALLED DEFEAT OR HUMILIATE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

ALSO, BE SURE TO START YOUR OWN RADICAL LEFTIST TERRORIST ORGANIZATION BASED ON SIMILAR PRINCIPLES AS THE YOUNG TIGERS!!

"Our vision: To carry forth this capsule of hope through the bombardments of a dark age, to fortify this message, free of the influence and contamination of alien appropriations and co-optation, ultimately, delivering it's magical gift to the children of the future, breathing life into their hearts and souls.

Now let us celebrate the possibilities of future, past, and present."

  1. The members of the Baader-Meinhof group, like a great deal of the German left in the 1960s and 70s, were a pack of morons - except maybe Ulrike Meinhof, who actually had things to say. In any case, one of their number, a lawyer names Horst Mahler, is now a member of the National Democratic Party of Germany (more or less a neo-Nazi party) and an outspoken proponent of far-right politics. What's worse, he insists that his present politics are in perfect continuity with his former leftism (though there may be some truth in this, considering the naive and idiotic profligacy of the Baader-Meinhof gang and its activities). I guess they trained briefly with the PLO in Jordan, but of course every member of the latter organization thought all the Baader-Meinhofers were a lot of ridiculous libertines.

Anyhow, this is a nice stunt. I like it.

Also, that film has already been released and was nominated for an academy award and a golden globe.

  3. It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

  4. “It is only this reference to what happens after the revolution, to the ‘morning after’, that allows us to distinguish between libertarian pathetic outbursts and true revolutionary upheavals: the former outbursts lose their energy when one has to approach the prosaic work of social reconstruction – at this point, lethargy sets in.”

I think this is an important distinction, and precisely the shortcoming of mere pleasure-seekers like the RAF. It makes a lot of wealthy kids feel good to strike radical poses, but how many of them are really interested in the effort required to effect structural change? This may not, in fact, merely be a shortcoming of the Baader-Meinhof gang, but of much of the 1960s "counterculture" and its legacy. It's rather plain to see that the market can easily accommodate itself to the kind of hedonism encouraged by the "free love" movement. As Michel Houellebecq points out in The Elementary Particles, the upshot of the "sexual liberation" of the 1960s was both the creation of a new market (the sexual free market) and the consequent removal of the final barrier which separated individuals from total exposure to market forces - love and the family. I'm not really going anywhere with this, and it's not a response to anything in particular - I just don't think that robbing banks and having promiscuous sex is anything particularly revolutionary. But then again, as Bertolt Brecht wrote: "What is the robbing of a bank compared to the founding of a new bank?"
