"The Nation that Leads the Clean Energy Economy Will Lead the Global Economy... and America Must Be That Nation!"
“But to create more of these clean energy jobs, we need more production, more efficiency, more incentives. That means
building a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants
in this country. It means making tough decisions aboutopening new offshore areas for oil and gas development.
It means continued investment inadvanced biofuels and clean coal technologies
. And yes, it means passing a comprehensive energy and climate bill with incentives that will finally make clean energy the profitable kind of energy in America.”MEANWHILE.... ACROSS THE GLOBE FROM OUR HERO......
"China vaulted past competitors in Denmark, Germany, Spain and the United States last year to become
the world’s largest maker of wind turbines
, and is poised to expand even further this year.China has also leapfrogged the West in the last two years to emerge as
the world’s largest manufacturer of solar panels.
And the country is pushing equally hard to build nuclear reactors and the most efficient types of coal power plants. These efforts to
dominate
renewable energy technologies raisethe prospect
that the West may someday trade its dependence on oilfrom the Mideast
for a reliance on solar panels, wind turbines and"other gear"
manufactured inCHINA."
gulp.... yeah.... gulp is right. gulp that down.
Environmental issues are definitely one of the weak links in Obama's political platform. The scary thing about this, for things that are alive, is that the possibility of ecological catastrophe is also more important than any other "issue". So, yeah, gulp. But hopefulness has been hard to hold onto for a long time on this front.
