Retired Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney talking about the necessity of racial profiling in airports:

Let's try to analyze this "logic" a bit. He starts off by saying that "he believes" that there will be a terrorist attack on an airplane in the next "30-120 days." This is an incredulously vague number if I've ever heard one. A little bit of background on Lt. Gen. McInerney would be beneficial here. He was one of the retired military officials recruited by the Pentagon as a "key influential" to appear on talk shows and/or as sources in articles/op-eds to sell the American public on the Iraq war back in 2002. So it's clear that McInerney is no stranger to shameless propaganda engineered to advance the budget/agenda of the military-industrial complex. Typical of this sort of propaganda is the imposition of meaningless, vague deadlines such as this, designed to elicit knee-jerk fear in all who hear them. Particularly note the lack of evidence, and also the lack of a request to provide it from the interviewer.

So, the profiling bombshell. The fact that this is a hideous, bigoted thing to propose can, I think, be taken for granted. Again, he goes into no detail regarding how "muslims" would be identified. This is made particularly difficult when he says the profiling would not be racial in nature. The fact that he proposes profiling based on religious belief effectively indicates that he feels that the government, through the arm of the TSA, should be able to violate the individual rights of anyone it wants.

As justification for this, he says that Israel has done this for some time and been "extremely successful" with this technique. So, the idea here is to use Israel as our model for human rights/moral decisions? Because, if so, that's fucked.

Finally, the idea that the government should, or could, be held responsible for the wellbeing of every citizen of its principality is complete bullshit, and yet seems to be regarded as its primary objective these days. For more on this, I quote Glenn Greenwald:

"The citizenry has been trained to expect that our Powerful Daddies and Mommies in government will -- in that most cringe-inducing, child-like formulation -- Keep Us Safe. Whenever the Government fails to do so, the reaction -- just as we saw this week -- is an ugly combination of petulant, adolescent rage and increasingly unhinged cries that More Be Done to ensure that nothing bad in the world ever happens. Demands that genuinely inept government officials be held accountable are necessary and wise, but demands that political leaders ensure that we can live in womb-like Absolute Safety are delusional and destructive. Yet this is what the citizenry screams out every time something threatening happens: please, take more of our privacy away; monitor more of our communications; ban more of us from flying; engage in rituals to create the illusion of Strength; imprison more people without charges; take more and more control and power so you can Keep Us Safe."

The most incredible straight-face-keeper I have ever seen interviewed people in front of a Sarah Palin book signing, which produces an equally jaw-dropping effect as his previous interviews at the 9/12 rally. Enjoy, and join me in a toast to the death of reason!

To be fair, below are some snippets of protests published on Andrew Sullivan's blog at The Atlantic from people on the Left claiming that Democrats are being too hard on President Obama, equally devoid of fact and thoughtfulness and which, also, make far more claims about Obama's perceived character than his policies. But I guess "where someone's heart is" has always been a more important barometer for success than action in this country, anyways.

"Thank goodness people are starting to leave the left. Their abandonment of Obama is as unconscionable as the right's refusal to work with him. . . . This is about decency and working together to solve problems. . . . Obama is almost solitary in his desire and ability to tackle problems of epic proportion while realizing that we live in a very heterogeneous society. . . . The loud-mouths on the Left are becoming nearly as hysterical and vicious as those on the right. . . . I marvel (unhappily) on a daily basis on how myopic and stubborn many of those on the left have become in regards to President Obama. I wonder if any of these people have ever truly had to make hard decisions in their lives. Have they not ever had to weigh all consequences?. . . . These are real choices people, not a schoolyard fantasy, in which our guy, king of the geeks, is finally captain of the kickball team, and now he can pick us fellow geeks and play us all in sweet revenge against the jocks. He is not playing. He is leading. Not even one year in, I am willing to continue to trust his instinct, his grace, his patience and his measured hand. . . .These are the reasons I voted for him. Hope for a leader, not hope for "everything to be completely different from the previous guy regardless of the consequences", which is what I think many immature democrats are upset about. The stuff coming out of "progressive" mouths is all too often on a par with Glenn Beck's abusive rants--both sides (right and left wingers) playing thousand-pound national football with the President as the ball--meaning, kick kick kick, until you bust his dick. This truly makes me sick."

Ugh, She's Back

It's unfortunately true, America's favorite hockey mom and most offensively ignorant political figure is back in the spotlight. That picture up there isn't even one of the many in-poor-taste photoshopped pictures of her either, but an authentically in-poor-taste picture she consented to. Every time Sarah Palin is in the spotlight, invariably offending intelligent and/or informed people who value truth all around the world, I am tempted to ignore her. The thought process behind this is that she makes me so upset with every world she drawls and I should thus not listen in the interest of keeping my blood pressure down, and that I would like to hope that maybe if everyone just ignores her she will go away. This last thought is incredibly naive, and unfortunately has been the primary response of Barack Obama to the growing chorus of hysterical white people speaking out illogically against him and in favor of people like Palin. People like these:

Now, I have been trying to wrap my mind around this swelling of faux-populist sentiment on the Far-Right for awhile now, and it just won't make sense. Certainly, there is reason for the American people to be upset right now. In the last couple of years we have seen empirically the failures of our politico-economic system, and many people in this country and throughout the world have experienced this rather painfully. However, these furious disciples of Sarah Palin and Glen Beck raging their concerns in tea-party protests and Fox News forums are fighting for the very system that is their oppressor. The majority of these people are a part of the very middle class that is being systematically demolished, and yet they rally for the return to the principles of that system, and those who support it. Sure, some of this may be racism, as has often been speculated. But bigotry can absolutely not be the only, or even the primary, driving force behind this supremely disorienting phenomena.

It seems clear that, while this is still a fringe movement, lacking the political power to do something truly terrible such as, say, electing Sarah Palin as President in 2012, it is significant enough to cause trouble for Barack Obama in the future, and Democratic Senators and Representatives in 2010. We have seen that the road of condescending willful ignorance is not the effective solution to this mindless rage-filled movement. The only solution that seems effective at this point is for politicians and anyone who comes into contact with these people to engage directly with them, armed with the truth, like that guy from the 9/12 rally that Magical Fuckers posted the video of here. Maybe then we could do something productive with all this rage and force Barack Obama to be the agent of change he promised to be but has proven unwilling to commit to.

Yeah, Newsweek should be more policy-oriented, and you should maybe just one time address an actual policy instead of simply spouting inflammatory talking points designed to elicit a certain response rather than contribute meaningfully to an improvement of our political system in any way. Ugh.

Introducing: Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen is an American actor who has been in many movies. He had been married many times to actresses, shot his then fiance Kelly Preston in the arm (they never ended up getting married), once overdosed when experimenting with intravenous cocaine use, and has many famous people in his family. These are all normal things everyone knows about Charlie Sheen. What you might not know is that he is completely insane, as evidenced by this fictitious interview with President Obama that he wrote and published on the least respectable site possible: Prison Planet, of course. The things he attributes to Barack Obama are particularly of interest to people who like to laugh really hard.

PBO – Even if what you state, might in some capacity, begin to approach an open discussion or balanced debate, I can’t speak for, or about the decisions certain commission members made during an extremely difficult period. Perhaps you should be interviewing them instead of me. Wait, don’t tell me; I was easier to track down than they were?

PBO – And I’d like to believe that I am here to restore that hope. To restore confidence in your leaders, in the system that the voting public chose through a peaceful transfer of power.

CS – Mr. President, are you aware of the number of days it took to begin the investigation into JFK’s assassination?

PBO – If memory serves I believe it was two weeks.

CS – Close. Seventeen days to be exact. Are you aware sir, how long it took to begin the investigation into Pearl Harbor?

PBO – Of course this information worries me, yet it’s not nearly as worrisome as you sitting here today suspiciously implying that 9/11 was somehow allowed to happen or even orchestrated from the inside.

CS – Mr. President I am not suspiciously implying anything. I am merely exposing the documents and asking the questions that nobody in power will even look at or acknowledge. And as I stated earlier, I voted for you, I believed in your message of hope and change. Mr. President I have come to you specifically hoping for a change. A change in the perception that our government has not yet made itself open and accountable to the people. These are your words Mr. President not mine. The lives of thousands were brutally cut short and those left behind to suffer their infinite pain are with me today Mr. President. They are with me in spirit and flesh, and the message we carry will not be silenced anymore by media fueled mantras insisting how they are supposed to feel. Deciding for them, for 8 long years, what can be thought, what can be said, what can be asked.

Wow! This guy is not well! I mean...there's just so much..."Brief me"!!!!!!! The idea that the President of the United States would be easier to reach than other people?? The whole two weeks bit that is clearly written to give Charlie Sheen some fictitious one-up on President Obama!!! This guy is really really really ill. There are so many laughs in this thing it is hard to deal with it without an onset of acute Exploding Head Syndrome obstructing your view of the computer screen. Snakes In The Grass

So, you guys, I just made an amazingly weird discovery via The Internet today. On the website Facebook, I am a member of a "group" known as "Meditation in School," which ostensibly advertises just that, that there should be time allotted for meditation in children's schools. I joined this group because I figured it probably wouldn't hurt the collective little ones to learn the respective values of patience and stillness and to insert some peace and quiet into their noisy annoying little existences; because I used to meditate quite frequently myself and it was really, really, really, really fun; and because why not. It has come to my attention, however, that the people in charge of this "group" are in fact completely insane. There has obviously been some sort of a hostile takeover of the group, because I never noticed anything like this before, and there is no longer anything in the groups description whatsoever about meditation. Lately I've been getting messages from the group that are all kind of crazy; messages with ominous titles such as "free Auric Field Protection." There were links to their website, so I followed them and found this bombshell:
